Lowestoft Guttering

Connecting you with experts in gutters, downpipes, soffits & fascias.

What Are Fascias?

You'll usually hear the term fascias alongside soffits when you're on the subject of roofing.

Fascia boards are the (usually but not always white) vertical boards that run just under the bottom of your roofing.

The fascias face outwards from the roofline, filling the gap between the roof and horizontal soffit boards that face down to the ground.

Often, fascia boards are what the guttering fixings attach to.

Soffits and fascias are very closely related, and that's probably a major contributor to how often they're confused by homeowners, and even some professionals in the industry!

Fascias are part of a range of features of the home's roof and guttering system, collectively called the roofline.

What Are Fascias For?

Fascias and soffits broadly serve the same purpose as each other, but while fascias are about giving your home a tidy and clean appearance and protecting it from the elements, they don't usually allow ventilation like the soffit boards.

You can read more about the soffits here.

What Are Fascia Boards Made From?

Fascias are usually made from one of three materials - namely uPVC, wood or metal. Generally, you'd expect both the fascias and soffits to be formed from the same material on the same property.

Exceptions to that rule usually occur when repairs have been carried out since the original roofline installation. Perhaps wooden elements have deteriorated over the time and been repaired with uPVC replacements for better longevity.
